The afterlife has rules. Edwin Sayer intends to enforce them.

When a meticulous compliance investigator dies, he expects judgment, oblivion, or perhaps an awkward conversation with a higher power. Instead, he awakens inside Continuance—a vast, privatized afterlife where the dead compete in lethal trials for the right to reincarnate.

While warriors receive legendary weapons and mages command impossible powers, Edwin is assigned the apparently useless class of Compliance Auditor. He cannot throw fireballs or summon monsters. He can inspect the fine print, identify violations, suspend unauthorized powers, and force gods, administrators, and celestial corporations to obey their own regulations.

Unfortunately, the system was never designed to survive honest scrutiny.

Joined by a disgraced executioner, a gentle berserker, a probability-bending con artist, and a brass filing beetle with strong opinions about documentation, Edwin climbs through increasingly dangerous tiers of the afterlife. Each new realm brings harsher trials, deeper corruption, and more powerful enemies determined to keep the dead obedient.

But Edwin is no longer fighting only for his own second chance. Millions of souls are trapped in a system that turns suffering into profit—and their grievances are beginning to pile up.

The Terms of Ascension series is a darkly comic progression-fantasy adventure filled with inventive challenges, system exploits, found family, cosmic bureaucracy, and one ordinary man’s increasingly unreasonable attempt to hold heaven accountable.
